Core Banking Software Market to Reach USD 65.39 Billion by 2034 as Banks Accelerate Cloud-Native Modernization

Epignosis Insights, a market research and brand intelligence consultancy, today announced the release of its latest study, Core Banking Software Market: Vendor Innovation, Strategic Partnerships and Product Roadmap Analysis, 2027–2034. The report finds that the global core banking software market, valued at USD 15.83 billion in 2024 and USD 17.94 billion in 2025, is projected to reach approximately USD 65.39 billion by 2034, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.0% during 2027–2034.

The study examines how banks are rethinking the systems that sit at the center of their operations. Rather than treating the core as a fixed back-office ledger, institutions are increasingly evaluating platforms on cloud-native architecture, real-time processing, API maturity, embedded AI and total cost of ownership. The analysis is segmented by core architecture, covering account-centric, product-centric, customer-centric, event-driven, ledger-centric, API-first and composable cores, as well as by banking ledger structure, banking functionality depth and customer account model.

Key Findings

  • The global core banking software market was valued at USD 15.83 billion in 2024 and USD 17.94 billion in 2025.
  • The market is projected to reach approximately USD 65.39 billion by 2034, registering an 18.0% CAGR during 2027–2034.
  • Double-digit annual growth is expected throughout the forecast period, with growth moderating gradually after 2028.
  • Legacy core modernization and replacement programs remain the primary growth catalysts.
  • Cloud-native, SaaS, API-first and composable platforms are reshaping vendor selection and commercial models.

Market Dynamics Reshaping Core Banking

Cross-Border Capability Emerges as a Differentiator

Multi-currency and cross-border functionality is becoming a decisive selection criterion as banks serve international customers, multinational businesses and remittance flows. Modern cores must support currency conversion, FX pricing, nostro and vostro accounts, correspondent banking and international payment routing in real time. Swift reports more than 1.6 million ISO 20022 cross-border payment messages exchanged daily across 170 sending and 220 receiving countries. Epignosis Insights finds that ISO 20022-native processing, automated FX conversion and real-time multi-currency ledgers represent some of the strongest near-term opportunities for vendors.

Security and Operational Resilience Move Into the Core

Cybersecurity and regulatory compliance are now embedded in core platform evaluations. The European Banking Authority reported that 58% of banks experienced at least one cyberattack in the second half of 2024. In parallel, the EU's Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) has formalized expectations for ICT-risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing and third-party oversight, with 3,383 major ICT-related incidents reported across EU financial sectors during 2025. The report concludes that built-in security architecture, automated compliance controls and continuous auditability will increasingly separate leading vendors from the rest of the field.

Total Cost of Ownership Reshapes Buying Decisions

Banks are moving beyond headline license comparisons toward full lifecycle cost analysis. FIS notes that the initial license fee can represent less than half of lifetime total cost of ownership (TCO), while maintenance or recurring license charges can average approximately 15–22% of the initial license value. Cloud-native vendors are accelerating a shift toward subscription, per-account, transaction-based and consumption-based pricing, which lowers upfront capital requirements but introduces variable operating costs as volumes grow. Buyers are therefore comparing five- to ten-year TCO, contract flexibility, integration requirements and exit costs alongside software pricing.

Product Roadmaps Shift Toward Continuous Modernization

Vendor roadmaps are moving away from periodic large-scale releases toward composable capabilities, embedded AI, cloud-native deployment and automated upgrades.

Leading providers are prioritizing modular architectures that allow banks to modernize individual capabilities without undertaking a full core replacement. Scalability remains a central proof point; Temenos, for example, has demonstrated a benchmark of 25 million customers, 50 million accounts and 16,600 transactions per second. The study expects future roadmaps to emphasize AI agents, real-time ledgers, payment interoperability and progressive legacy modernization.

Competitive Landscape

The report evaluates the competitive positioning of leading vendors across 12 parameters, including cloud-native maturity, API maturity, real-time processing, scalability, legacy migration capability, AI capability and implementation complexity. Key companies analyzed include Temenos, Finastra, FIS, Fiserv, Oracle, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, 74Software (SBS), Jack Henry, Avaloq (NEC), Intellect Design Arena, Mambu, Thought Machine, 10x Banking, Azentio Software, Profile Software, Silverlake Axis, Capital Banking Solutions, Skaleet, Bantotal, ERI, Nymbus and Q2 Holdings, among others.

“The core is no longer a system banks replace once a generation and then leave alone,” said Abhijith Nair, Senior Research Manager at Epignosis Insights. “Our analysis shows that vendor selection is now driven by how well a platform supports progressive modernization, from cloud-native deployment and real-time processing to embedded AI and regulatory resilience. Vendors that can prove scalability while lowering the risk and cost of migration are best positioned to capture the next wave of core replacement programs.”
