The scale of hyperscale spending has reached a point where even a small share redirected toward Southeast Asia reshapes the region's cooling market outright. Reporting on early 2026 earnings calls found that Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft collectively plan to invest up to USD 630 billion in capital expenditures for the year, an increase of roughly 62 percent over 2025 spending, with the bulk of that capital flowing into AI and cloud infrastructure worldwide. Southeast Asia is capturing a growing slice of that build-out, and the region's cooling infrastructure is expanding to match it. According to Epignosis Insights, installed cooling capacity across Southeast Asia is projected to rise from 1,800 MW in 2024 to 3,763 MW by 2033, a 9.2 percent compound annual growth rate between 2027 and 2033, while the associated cooling market grows from USD 2,070 million to USD 6,397 million over the same window, a 12.8 percent CAGR.
Indonesia and Batam Show How Fast Hyperscale Demand Moves
Nowhere is the pace of hyperscale commitment clearer than in Batam, Indonesia. The Jakarta Post reported that state-owned utility PLN Batam signed a new power supply agreement with developer DayOne to support a second hyperscale campus at Kabil Industrial Tech Park, with electricity to be delivered in phases through 2026 and 2027, following an earlier deal that brought a combined 511 MVA, or roughly 450 MW, of contracted capacity to the site, among the largest single data center power agreements in Indonesia to date. Microsoft's first Indonesian data center, launched in 2025, is expected to contribute approximately USD 2.5 billion to the local economy and create 60,000 jobs by 2028, illustrating how a single hyperscaler's cooling and power requirements can reshape a national digital infrastructure agenda almost overnight.
Investment Advisors Are Tracking a Region-Wide Acceleration
Real estate and investment advisory firm CBRE found that the Asia Pacific data center market shrugged off a slow start to 2025 to post strong full-year growth, with an increasing number of investors and developers specifically targeting Southeast Asia for new opportunities as AI and cloud adoption accelerated. The firm noted that access to grid power remains the single biggest constraint on this growth, a challenge it expects to intensify through 2026 as workloads shift further toward AI-intensive demand. That framing matters for cooling specifically: as hyperscalers commit to larger campuses on tighter power budgets, every megawatt spent on inefficient cooling is a megawatt unavailable for compute, pushing operators toward higher-performance thermal systems even where budgets are otherwise unconstrained.
Equipment Vendors Are Scaling Thermal Management to Match
Suppliers are treating advanced cooling as a growth segment in its own right rather than an accessory to power equipment. Schneider Electric's full-year 2025 results disclosed that demand in its core data center segment accelerated sharply, with triple-digit year-over-year growth in the fourth quarter driven largely by hyperscale and colocation customers, and the company specifically cited strong uptake of its liquid cooling offerings alongside electrical panels, UPS systems, and prefabricated modules. The company had earlier moved to acquire a controlling interest in Motivair Corporation, a specialist in liquid cooling and advanced thermal management for high-performance computing, reinforcing that major suppliers view direct-to-chip and liquid-based systems as core to serving next-generation hyperscale campuses rather than a niche add-on.
Rising Cost Per Megawatt Reflects a More Sophisticated Cooling Stack
The financial trajectory in Epignosis Insights data reflects this shift toward more advanced thermal engineering. Average cooling cost per MW is projected to climb steadily from 1.15 in 2024 to 1.70 by 2033, even as installed capacity more than doubles over the same period. That combination signals that Southeast Asia's cooling market is not simply scaling existing air-cooled designs to meet hyperscale demand. Operators are layering in higher-performance liquid and hybrid systems capable of supporting the dense, power-hungry AI racks that hyperscalers are now deploying at a pace few regional utilities anticipated even two years ago.

Hyperscale expansion and advanced thermal management have become two sides of the same trend rather than separate developments. As global cloud providers commit record capital to the region and secure power agreements measured in hundreds of megawatts, the cooling systems supporting those campuses are becoming more sophisticated, more liquid-based, and more tightly integrated into power planning than at any point in the market's history. Markets that can combine available land, grid capacity, and advanced cooling supply chains, as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are each attempting in different ways, are best positioned to capture the next wave of hyperscale commitments moving through the region.
