Epignosis Insights Releases September 2026 Global Nylon (PA6/PA66) Price Tracker

Epignosis Insights Releases September 2026 Global Nylon (PA6/PA66) Price Tracker

Epignosis Insights, a market research and brand intelligence consultancy, today published the September 2026 edition of its Global Nylon (PA6/PA66) Price Tracker, documenting a sharp divergence between Europe's recovering nylon 6 market and a nylon 66 sector still absorbing the fallout from a structural Chinese capacity surge. The report finds that European PA6 contract prices climbed from roughly €1,550–1,710 per tonne in December 2025 to €2,300–2,500 per tonne by August 2026, even as PA66 continues working through the aftermath of a bankruptcy filing by the world's largest integrated producer. Compiled from government, industry, company and price-reporting sources, the tracker positions Chinese capacity expansion, new intermediate-chemistry technology, and fresh European Union trade action as the three forces most likely to shape nylon pricing through the rest of 2026.

Key Findings at a Glance

The report's central finding is that PA6 and PA66 are now moving in opposite directions for structurally different reasons. Nylon 6 pricing in Europe has risen roughly 40–50% since December 2025 on the back of rising caprolactam and benzene feedstock costs, while nylon 66 remains weighed down by a capacity overhang with no equivalent in the PA6 market. Epignosis Insights compiled the report using a strict single-use-per-source methodology across government agencies, industry associations, company disclosures, consulting and price-reporting firms, and trade news outlets, ensuring the tracker reflects a balanced, verifiable cross-section of primary data.

Taken together, the findings position 2026 as a year in which nylon buyers can no longer treat PA6 and PA66 as a single commodity category for procurement planning purposes: the two polymers are being shaped by entirely different feedstock, capacity and trade-policy dynamics, and the report recommends tracking them separately in sourcing and cost-forecasting models going forward.

Europe PA6 Prices Rebound on Feedstock Costs

According to the tracker, ICIS's assessment of northwest European nylon 6 virgin polymer put August 2026 contract prices at €2,300–2,500 per tonne, a €100-per-tonne increase at the low end compared with July. That figure caps a sustained climb from roughly €1,550–1,710 per tonne in December 2025. The report attributes the increase to rising caprolactam costs, themselves pushed higher by benzene price gains linked to disruption around the Strait of Hormuz earlier in 2026, with those higher conversion costs working through the nylon 6 value chain into chips, engineering resin and filament yarn grades.

PA66's Oversupply Crisis and Ascend's Bankruptcy

The report traces PA66's current weakness back to a dramatic capacity reversal in China: between 2022 and 2025, Chinese producers added roughly 70% more PA66 polymer capacity, lifting national nameplate output to nearly 1.5 million tonnes per year. That surge, combined with weak automotive demand, pushed Ascend Performance Materials — the Houston-based company that describes itself as the world's largest fully integrated PA66 producer — into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2025 after PA66 prices fell an estimated 45% from their COVID-era peak. Ascend emerged from Chapter 11 in December 2025 with $1.3 billion less debt, a new $350 million credit facility, and more than $600 million in new shareholder capital, positioning the reorganized company to compete more aggressively on cost.

Epignosis Insights notes that Ascend's case illustrates how quickly an industry can swing from shortage to surplus: the same company faced a supply crisis in 2021 following a force majeure at a major US HMDA facility, and within four years found itself restructuring under bankruptcy protection as Chinese capacity additions reversed the balance entirely.

Trade Policy and Technology Shifts

The report also highlights the European Union's decision to impose definitive anti-dumping duties on Chinese polyamide yarn imports in July 2026, following provisional duties introduced in March, as a direct regulatory response to the capacity imbalance Chinese expansion has created. On the technology side, China's Risun Group commissioned a new hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) production facility in May 2026 using a proprietary process that bypasses the traditional adiponitrile route — a development the report frames as reducing Chinese producers' dependence on Western intermediate-chemistry technology even as trade barriers rise in key export markets.

Epignosis Insights notes that these regulatory and technology shifts are unfolding simultaneously rather than sequentially, meaning buyers negotiating nylon supply contracts in the second half of 2026 face a market where feedstock costs, capacity economics and trade policy are all moving at once, rather than one factor dominating at a time.

The report further observes that this convergence of pressures is prompting a bifurcated corporate response across the value chain: Western incumbents such as BASF are shifting portfolio emphasis toward specialty and reinforced polyamide grades less exposed to Chinese commodity competition, while materials innovators including Envalior are piloting chemical-recycling routes that convert end-of-life vehicle plastics into caprolactam feedstock, positioning themselves ahead of tightening EU vehicle-circularity requirements.

About the Report

The Global Nylon (PA6/PA66) Price Tracker is a monthly publication from Epignosis Insights, covering pricing, regulatory and company developments across the global nylon value chain. Each edition draws on government agencies, industry associations, company annual reports and investor presentations, price-reporting and consulting sources, and trade news, with no single source cited more than once per report.
